Abandoned Inventory Solutions for 3PLs

Recover warehouse space and evaluate surplus or abandoned client inventory through a documented commercial disposition process.

Start with authority, then the inventory

Abandoned inventory can keep occupying warehouse space after a client relationship has stalled. Centerpoint can review merchandise for purchase or recovery, but the warehouse needs to establish its authority to sell or dispose of the goods before a transaction proceeds. Ownership, notices and contractual or legal requirements depend on the situation. A liquidation offer does not resolve an ownership dispute.

Separate the commercial evaluation from the release approval. You can prepare a manifest, photos and loading information while the responsible parties confirm what may be sold. Tell us which lots are approved for disposition and which are still on hold. Do not include confidential client records that are unrelated to the inventory review.

Information that makes a 3PL inventory review useful

Describe the goods

Provide product categories, SKUs, quantities, condition and original packaging details. Identify mixed lots, damaged cartons and goods with dated or restricted use.

Describe the logistics

Share warehouse location, pallet count, estimated weights, dock or forklift access and the loading window. Note whether goods are staged together or spread across locations.

Describe the disposition limits

Explain which goods are authorized for release, any resale-channel restrictions and the desired space-clearance timeline. Confirm those conditions before the offer is finalized.

Outright purchase or a recurring recovery program

For a defined lot, an outright purchase may provide a straightforward clearance path. For continuing surplus and returns streams, a recurring program can coordinate review, pickup and settlement. Value depends on demand, condition, assortment and logistics. The right structure is agreed in writing before inventory moves.

See inventory liquidation and excess inventory buying for offer structures, or reverse logistics programs for repeat flows. Our liquidation preparation guide explains manifests and condition grading.

What about abandoned or OS&D freight?

Over, short and damaged freight can involve missing quantities, disputed ownership or product damage. Explain the discrepancy and provide photos of the goods and packaging. Centerpoint reviews the merchandise that can be released for disposition; freight claims and ownership decisions remain matters for the responsible parties. A usable product description is more helpful than treating every distressed freight load as the same opportunity.

Discuss your project.
